Personal Tutoring
Math Compassion offers personal tutoring for each stage of math development: elementary school, junior high, middle school, high school, and college. The approach varies with the level and the student's understanding. For elementary school students, attention is placed on keeping our work together light and relating concepts to the world. For junior high and middle school students, greater emphasis is placed on helping students find comfort, as these students tend to be more afraid of math. For high school students, who have a more developed sense of individuality, consciousness is placed on engaging students and helping them put down their barriers and dis-identify with personal limiting beliefs. And for [self-sufficient] college students, greater energy is devoted to crafting the analytical reasoning and mathematical precision necessary to solve problems and see connections more clearly. In either case, the key to the Math Compassion approach is that it is the tutor's responsibility to meet students where they are, and to do that the tutor needs to be patient, compassionate. and conscious of students' needs.
